Fun Facts: Unmarried and Single Americans Week
Did you know "Unmarried and Single Americans Week" is Sept. 16-22? Here are some fun facts about the unmarried life, courtesy of our pals at the U.S. Census!
How'd it Start?
The Buckeye Singles Council “National Singles Week” started in Ohio in the 1980s to celebrate single life and recognize singles and their contributions to society. The week is now widely observed during the third full week of September as “Unmarried and Single Americans Week.”
Single Life
102 million: Number of unmarried people in America 18 and older in 2011. This group comprised 44.1 percent of all U.S. residents 18 and older. Source: America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2011
53%: Percentage of unmarried U.S. residents 18 and older who were women in 2011; 47 percent were men. Source: America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2011
62%: Percentage of unmarried U.S. residents 18 and older in 2011 who had never been married. Another 24 percent were divorced, and 14 percent were widowed. Source: America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2011

Parenting

Unmarried Couples

These are very interesting statistics. I was particularly surprised to see the total percentage of unmarried people over 18 is 62%.

...and no wonder the percentage IS that high! Between the want to be Barbies out there without anything to bring to the table besides flashing their goods (we'll all get old one day, you know) and the others who have less domestic skills than most men I know, why would any self respecting guy dare take a risk? It's just easier to live up to my name!
