VIDEO: Zamboni Driver Needs A Push At Hockey Rink

How many hockey players does it take to push a broken down Zamboni?

Keeping Florida ice smooth and firm can take a toll on equipment given the humidity.

The Zamboni driver at Tampa Bay Skating Academy in Oldsmar found that out Sunday as the ice resurfacer broke down on the ice between adult hockey league games.

The poor machine stood there lifeless, like a sad scene out of Cars. It was just a couple of swoops around the ice from finishing, but it wasn't meant to be.

Ice rinks don't have Zamboni tow trucks on hand (though that would be quite a sight), so the rink used the second best option: hockey players.

A small group of players pushed the Zamboni off the ice making for a funny scene inside the rink. A back-up Zamboni saved the night for the following game ensuring smooth ice, though it would make games more interesting if there were a pre-game Zamboni push/pull contest or at least a Zamboni demolition derby.

Nonetheless, this Patcher was glad to see Zamboni issue was quickly and entertainingly resolved — he had a game to play.
