Palm Harbor Chef to Show Off Skills at Curry Fest

Chef Massimo Patino of "Massimo's Eclectic Fine Dining" in Palm Harbor will prepare food for the VIP reception at the Tampa Bay International Curry Festival on Saturday, April 20 at the India Cultural Center in Tampa.

Curry is not just made by Indian people.

That is the message Sadhana Ramcharran, chair of the Tampa Bay International Curry Festival, hopes to convey during the April 20 event.

The festival will include more than 50 vendors, games, live music and most importantly lots of curry food. Indian, Jamaican, Guyanese and Pakistani are just some of the forms of curry to be highlighted at the festival.

"We want people to come and enjoy the different curries," Ramcharran said. "It's a chance to see the wide variety of curries from all over the world."

More than $10,000 in prizes will be awarded to professional and amateur chefs during cook-off competitions. Chef Massimo Patino of Massimo's Eclectic Fine Dining in Palm Harbor will prepare food for the VIP reception (see video).

Last year's curry festival drew more than 3,000 people. This year organizers expect the event to be larger. To accommodate the larger crowd, Ramcharran said organizers decided to move it to a more central location at the India Cultural Center, 5511 Lynn Road in Tampa.

"It's going to be in and all a very fun event for everybody," Ramcharran said.
