Oldsmar Man Found with Oxycodone Pill, Deputies Say

An Oldsmar bicyclist was arrested after Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies discovered he had an Oxycodone pill in his possession, according to an arrest affidavit.

Deputies stopped Joseph W. Newton, 31, at 3:17 a.m. on Aug. 2, as he was riding his bicycle on Forest Lakes Boulevard. Deputies say he did not have required bicycle lights on his bike.

Deputies asked Newton if he had any drugs or weapons in his possession and he pulled out a Newport cigarette box from his pants and showed the deputies a pill inside the box. According to the arrest affidavit, the blue pill had "224" on the side. Deputies confirmed through the drug hotline that is was an Oxycodone pill.

Newton did not have a prescription for the pill. He told deputies he had the pill with him because he suffered from back problems.

Newton was arrested on one count of felony possession of Oxycodone. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $2,000 bond.
