Board Honors East Lake High's Engineering Academy

The Eagles got some recognition from the Pinellas County School Board after receiving a highly sought after grant.

East Lake High's Academy of Engineering was recently selected by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers to receive a national grant. 

The Pinellas County School Board honored the program for its stand-out performance and even revealed details of the grant.

According to the board, East Lake High will receive $35,000 over the course of three years. The funds are to be used to enhance the manufacturing education program. 

The grant is broken down into three payments. During the 2013-14 school year, East Lake High will receive $15,000. For the two following academic school years, the program will receive $10,000.

East Lake High's honor comes with notoriety in the following areas:

  • Strong administrative support from the district and school
  • Corporate support

With a $5.2 million initiative, the organization's focuses on science, techonology, engineering and mathematics, and educational programs that support the field.
