She hasn't even graduated from college yet, but East Lake resident Delaney Lester can add an impressive accomplishment to her resume: national champion.
Lester plays midfielder for the Clearwater Christian College (CCC) women's soccer team. The Lady Cougars clinched a 4-1 victory over Baptist Bible College to win their first ever national title on Nov. 10, the National Christian Colleges Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship.
The Lady Cougars had an impressive season. During regular season play, they outscored their NCCAA DII opponents 61-2, with 12 shutouts.
The win came one week after Lester received the NCCAA D II South Region First Team athletic honor at the NCCAA II South Region Championship.
Lester comes from a talented family when it comes to sports. Her brother Riley also attends CCC. He plays fullback for the college's mens' soccer team. Lester has nothing but praise for her brother Riley.
"It has honestly been such a great experience to be at college with my older brother, Riley, and to both be able to play the sport we love for our God. It has really helped grow us closer and it is so fun to have each other's support. I feel so blessed to have him and I wish him the best with the rest of his college career and can't wait to see what God has to do in both our lives."
"My brother knows when I need to be pushed and knows when I just need him there and he has always been so supportive and if it wasn't for him getting me connected at Clearwater Christian College, I honestly don't know if I would be playing soccer there right now," she told East Lake Patch.
Lester is a freshman Elementary Education major at CCC. She is a graduate of East Lake High School and is the daughter of Jim and Nancy Lester of East Lake.
