Orphaned Baby Deer Makes Friends with Squirrel

Remember "Dawn the Fawn", who was rescued after Tropical Storm Debby?

There's nothing like a cute animal story to get your Monday off to a great start.

Today, we have an update on one of Palm Harbor Patch's favorite critters, an orphaned fawn named "Dawn". You may remember that Rick Chaboudy at the Suncoast Animal League rescued Dawn after Tropical Storm Debby moved through back in June. Dawn was very tiny and had been bitten in the eye by a poisonous snake. Her mother was nowhere to be found.

Well now, Dawn has a new home now and we're happy to report it appears as though she doing pretty darned good. She recently made a new friend who happens to be a squirrel. How adorable!

Here's what Rick Chaboudy had to say about the unlikely pals-

"Dawn met one of the baby squirrels for the first time on a recent morning. She licked the formula off the baby's face and the little squirrel liked it so much that she jumped on Dawn's back. Dawn was her cool, calm, collected self and let the little "nut case" crawl around for a while. Before long, the baby squirrel made her way to the top of Dawn's head.

The gentle fawn found no reason to panic and simply walked around a bit showing off her new "hat." The only problem came when the baby  squirrel's tail flopped over the side of Dawn's face like someone about to graduate and Dawn started to nibble on the tail. Then, it was hats off time."
