Youth Volunteers Sought for Award Competition

The awards are granted annually to recognize middle and high school students for helping the less fortunate, promoting health and safety, protecting the environment, or volunteering in other ways.

Now through Nov. 6, Florida students in grades 5-12 who have volunteered in the past 12 months are invited to apply for 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards by visiting http://spirit.prudential.com and www.nassp.org/spirit.

Florida's top youth volunteers of 2012 were Samantha Kerker, 17, of Boca Raton and David Barge, 14, of Miami. As State Honorees, Samantha and David received $1,000 awards, engraved silver medallions, and all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. Samantha also was named one of America’s top 10 youth volunteers of the year.

The awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), are granted annually to recognize middle and high school students for helping the less fortunate, promoting health and safety, protecting the environment, or volunteering in other ways.
